Hong Kong Ding-ding Tram 香港叮叮電車
“Ding ding!” The 164 trams in Hong Kong make up the world's largest double-deck tram fleet. It began operations in 1904, running from East to West of Hong Kong Island.
Bodies of the first fleet of 26 tramcars were built in the UK and assembled in Hong Kong. Back then, all trams were single-deck. 10 were first class tramcars and the others were third class tramcars, with fares of 10 cents and 5 cents respectively. But today, we only have one class, one fare. This transition echoes the society’s evolution.
Like we enjoy the scenic tram ride, in the 1960s, a penguin raised by an ice factory at Causeway Bay took its “sightseeing” tour at 4 pm every day, such an interesting scene!
